Water Leaks
A water leak may occur in your property and may not be noticed for some time. If you experience an unusually high consumption of water, please try to determine if you have a leak. In the event of a hidden leak, you may be able to apply for a reduction in your water bill if certain criteria are met.
How to Detect a Leak
- Turn off all taps and appliances that use water (taps, washing machine, toilet, retic, pool pumps, etc).
- Locate your water meter (typically near your front property boundary).
- Record the reading on the meter (lift the lid of the meter to access the electronic reading window).
- Wait a few minutes (at least 15 minutes is recommended) to see if the meter reading changes.
- If the numbers change and you are certain all taps are off, it is probable that you have a leak.
- Try and locate the leak yourself before engaging a licensed plumber.
- More information on water leaks is available in our Water Leak Response Procedure, located on the Forms page.
Water Leaks / Leak Allowance
If you detect a leak on your property, you must engage a licensed plumber to repair the leak. Once repaired, you can contact our office within 20 business days of the repair to discuss whether you may be eligible for a partial rebate of your water usage amount. (Please note you will require the licensed plumber to complete and sign a section of a claim form detailing the repair.)
Muchea Water will assess your claim and respond within 15 business days. If approved, your account will be credited. We will advise of the reason(s) if your application is denied. Our Water Leak Response Procedure is located on the Forms page.
