Muchea Water operates in the heart of one of WA’s most exciting development areas, in the Shire of Chittering, a rapidly growing region 50km north-east of Perth.
We provide potable water to the Wildflower Ridge Estate residential subdivision located at Reserve Road, Chittering and to the Muchea Industrial Park – the new industrial estate east of Muchea Townsite.
The name Muchea comes from the Aboriginal word “Muchela” which means ‘water hole’ in Nyoongar, referring to the abundance of water.
Muchea Water is a privately owned, proudly Western Australian company (Aqua Ferre (Muchea) Pty Ltd ACN 630 936 319, trading as Muchea Water).
Muchea Water sources its water from the Leederville–Parmelia Aquifer, a large underground fresh water supply. Muchea Water holds a Licence to Take Water (GWL59907(7)), issued by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER), under the Rights in Water and Irrigation Act 1914 .
Water is abstracted from our production bore located on a secured site on the south-west corner of the Wildflower Ridge Estate. The production bore and water treatment is monitored constantly for water quality and water level, to ensure we meet the requirements of DWER, the Department of Health and our water licence obligations.
The water extracted from the aquifer is treated at Muchea Water’s advanced water treatment facility to remove metals and solids and disinfect and dose the treated water to comply with Australian Drinking Water Guideline (ADWG) quality requirements. The treated water is then stored in tanks at the treatment plant for delivery by a reticulation network to the Wildflower Ridge Estate customers and a mains network pipe to the Muchea Industrial Park (previously known as the Muchea Employment Node) where we have further back up storage.
The water is treated with the addition of sodium hypochlorite solution (chlorination) which is the accepted form of drinking water disinfection across Australia. The water treatment is monitored constantly and regularly tested by a NATA accredited laboratory to ensure it meets the requirements of the Department of Health and the ADWG.
Water services provided in Western Australia are regulated under the Water Services Act 2012. The Economic Regulation Authority of Western Australia (ERA) administers the water licensing regime throughout the State.
In order to supply water to residents of Wildflower Ridge Estate and to the Muchea Industrial Park, Muchea Water applied for and was granted a Water Services Licence (WL51) issued by the ERA.
Muchea Water operates in the Shire of Chittering. Muchea Water’s operating area (including the Wildflower Ridge Estate on Reserve Road, Chittering and the Muchea Industrial Park) is set out in our operating area map.
We are committed to providing an excellent experience for our customers. Our Customer Service Charter has been developed to inform you of your rights and responsibilities as a customer of Muchea Water.
The charter has been prepared with reference to the Water Services Code of Conduct (Customer Service Standards) 2018. The code sets out minimum service standards and requirements for all water service providers and makes their obligations to customers clear. We are required to comply with this code as part of our licence conditions. It covers matters such as connection, billing, payment, financial hardship, service suspension, complaints and the provision of information to customers.
